This guy was trying to get the attention of a female.  He was slapping the water with his fins and his tail.  Nothing like the sound of a 40 ton animal slapping the water.  Amazing!

    Nice capture on that tail slap! I know how hard it is do that--the boat is moving, people are jostling for position, and you are so excited and pumped about seeing the magnificent whales that it's hard to remember what you're supposed to do with that thing hanging around your neck! ;-)
